Interesting to see that Valyuk went into this tournament with a FMJD rating of 2444, just below Belosheyev at 2486, Egorov at 2460 and Dashkov at 2466. And then there's the promising GMI's Struchkov, and Grebenkin. Of course there are many other high level profiles in this tournament that I am not familiar with. This was indeed no easy ride.
Congratulations to Evgeny Kondrachenko (Belarus) - 3rd place; Andrey Valyuk (Belarus) - 1st place;Vladimir Egorov (Russia) - 2nd place and all the participants in this tournament.
I see there were lots of Lottery openings in this tournament. Makes it a lot tougher. Also noticed some strange openings such as 1.e3-f4 b6-a5, 1.e3-f4 b6-c5. 1.a3-b4 d6-e5 was also quite popular. And then there was (what I considered) the lest studied 1.g3-h4. It is interesting to see that many of these guys stayed away from popular openings and games. This is great strategy and is characteristic of high profile players as this group.
Thanks Jake for this wonderful news about draughts 64 - each time I see photos of a draughts 64 tournament particulary our variants like pool or Russian even Brazilian, honesry it pains me because I always desire to test the strength of all these so-called Grandmasters and Masters. This is just how I feel seeing people being crowned as World Champions or Grand Masters in a game(variant) which I feel I know better. Honestry, I have to meet these guys one day if not somebody else from Zambia.
